Software Engineer in Test I
About the Role
Are you passionate about software quality, automation, and solving complex technical challenges? KARL STORZ is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer in Test to join our collaborative Agile development team. In this role, you'll help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of innovative software solutions that support life-changing medical technologies around the world.
You'll work alongside experienced software engineers, architects, and project teams to develop automated testing solutions, execute software verification activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our development and release processes. This position provides an excellent opportunity to build your career in software engineering while gaining hands-on experience with modern test automation frameworks, DevOps practices, and medical technology products.
This role is based in Goleta, CA (4-10 hour days with Friday's off) and offers the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams in support of critical business and product objectives.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute automated test scripts using existing KARL STORZ automation frameworks.
- Create acceptance, integration, and regression tests that support software releases and DevOps pipelines.
- Partner with Agile development teams to define and validate new software features.
- Assist in developing test harnesses, mocks, and supporting automation tools under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Investigate, document, and help resolve software defects identified during testing activities.
- Perform manual verification and exploratory testing to ensure software quality and performance.
- Contribute to sprint planning, task estimation, retrospectives, and other Agile development activities.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 0-2 years of software development, testing, or related experience.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and languages such as C++, C#, or similar.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and software design principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with .NET, Python, or RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with Linux development environments and command-line tools.
- Exposure to software testing, test automation, networking, or DevOps concepts.
