About the Role

KARL STORZ is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer – Imaging Systems to lead the design, development, and analysis of complex, high-speed electronic circuits for advanced medical imaging and camera systems.

In this role, you will work with cutting-edge technologies, including Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), FPGAs, video transceivers, image sensors, high-speed serial interfaces, and mixed-signal electronics. You will provide technical leadership across the product development lifecycle, from research and system modeling through prototype validation, manufacturing support, and production release.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in analog and digital circuit design, electronic system simulation, and high-speed signal integrity, along with a passion for developing innovative and reliable medical technologies.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and development of complex, high-speed analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits incorporating SoCs, FPGAs, video transceivers, image sensors, power architectures, and high-speed data interfaces.

  • Perform advanced system modeling, circuit analysis, and simulation of imaging system components, including amplifiers, A/D converters, timing generation, cables, and digital signal processing systems.

  • Evaluate worst-case component tolerances, signal integrity, thermal performance, and system reliability to ensure optimal product performance and consistent manufacturing yields.

  • Research and develop innovative circuit designs, electronic components, high-density packaging technologies, and advanced analytical techniques for future medical imaging products.

  • Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, PWB Design, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams to optimize circuit layouts, product performance, manufacturability, and long-term reliability.

  • Design and implement test fixtures, validation procedures, and analytical testing methodologies to evaluate imaging system performance and support prototype development.

  • Provide technical leadership in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrical safety, circuit design, system analysis, and compliance with applicable medical device regulatory requirements.

  • Support sustaining engineering efforts by investigating and resolving complex field and manufacturing issues, developing corrective solutions, and implementing improved testing methods.

  • Lead technical design reviews, develop engineering documentation, and support product release activities, including technical knowledge transfer to Manufacturing and Quality teams.

  • Mentor engineering colleagues, recommend technical best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, performance, and reliability.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with an emphasis in mixed-signal design, or a related field with 9+ years of experience in analog/digital system design and analysis; or a Master's degree in Engineering or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Extensive experience designing and analyzing complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits.

  • Strong knowledge of high-speed analog and digital electronics, low-noise sensor interfaces, signal integrity, and high-speed serial data transmission across printed circuit boards and cables.

  • Proficiency with schematic design tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent.

  • Experience using electronic circuit simulation and signal integrity tools such as SPICE, HyperLynx, or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of mathematical analysis, circuit modeling, electronic simulation, and advanced testing methodologies.

  • Experience developing analytical models, evaluating worst-case tolerances, and validating electronic system performance.

  • Ability to operate advanced electronic test and measurement equipment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing electronic systems incorporating FPGAs, SoCs, and advanced image sensors.

  • Knowledge of color and monochrome imaging technologies, single-chip and three-chip camera systems, and interlaced and progressive scan architectures.

  • Experience with complex video systems, digital imaging, and high-speed video transmission.

  • Familiarity with medical device quality systems and regulatory standards, including FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, UL, CSA, and EU MDR.

  • Experience with medical endoscopy systems or other advanced medical imaging technologies.

  • Familiarity with Agile product development methodologies..
