CNC Machinist III- 1st shift

 POSITION SUMMARY 

 

 Set up and operate CNC machines, such as lathes and mills, and Swiss style machines. Ability to demonstrate basic blueprint reading and inspect required blueprint tolerances according to print. Understanding of CNC operation and machine safety. Create  and edit programs under engineering direction. 

 

Shift: 6:00AM-2:30PM, Monday to Friday

 

II.  MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 
 

 

  • High school diploma, or equivalent experience. 

  • Previous experience in Programming, set up and operation of CNC Lathes, Mills and other related CNC equipment. 

  • 5 – 10+ years of CNC Programming and Machining 

  • Experience working with exotic metals (nitinol, stainless steels, nickel alloys) 

  • Proficient in Machining medical device components and GMP requirements 

  • Ability to conduct high-level problem-solving related to the setup of machines and tooling (indicating and checking the alignment of tools and the machine)  

  • Must be able to read and interpret engineered drawings and blueprints. 

  • Must be able to Modify and edit CNC programs under the direction of Engineering. 

  • Must be able to create basic CNC programs under the direction of Engineering, creating layouts and set-up sheets for use by other machinists. 

  • Ability to inspect Parts to print and record Data. 

  • Medium to advanced computer skills 

  • Accuracy and attention to detail 

  • Must be able to perform Basic TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 
 

  • Must be punctual, able to sustain attendance guidelines, and work hours as assigned. 

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.  

  • It is not expected that this role will require driving as part of this job. 

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time 

 

 MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 
 

 

  • Ability to learn new processes and procedures quickly 

  •  Must be capable of making decisions regarding all aspects of machining processes in order to satisfy the manufacturing and or development schedule and quality requirements of the product.  

 
  • Must be able to investigate, troubleshoot, test and inspect product failures. 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for machining prototype parts, tool making and design, and producing small assemblies. 

  • Measures parts, making required adjustments to ensure conformance to requirements. 

  • Maintain machinery and tooling, and tracking and recording machine shop inventories as well as perform basic TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities.  

  • Must be able to write and edit CNC programs, including the creation of set-up sheets. 

  • Aware of practices and processes utilizing current management tools. 

  • Participate in Lean process improvement activities, including idea generation, root-cause analysis, and solution implementation. Responsibilities could include leading Lean manufacturing project teams. 

  • Train and mentor Machinists at levels I and II. 

  • Perform high-level problem-solving related to the setup of machines and tooling (indicating and checking the alignment of tools and the machine). 

  • Recognize machining or manufacturing problems to produce defect-free parts while meeting production rates. 

  • Participate in Lean process improvement activities, including idea generation, root-cause analysis, and solution implementation. Responsibilities could include leading Lean manufacturing project teams. 

  •  Able to train and mentor Machinists at levels I and II.

  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations, including the Company’s environmental and safety policies and procedures.  Must be willing to report actual and potential environmental and safety violations to appropriate supervisory and/or management personnel. 

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to environmental policies and company procedures as they relate to ISO 14001. 

  • Must not pose a direct threat or risk of harm to the safety of himself/herself or others. 

  • Responsible for informing the Company if he/she is taking medications or if there are any other circumstances which would interfere with the safe performance of duties. 

 

QUALITY  

 

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures as they relate to the requirements of FDA Quality System Regulation, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001 (current revisions).              

  • Must be able to keep accurate records for QSR and FDA.  

 

INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

 

  • Must be able to maintain productive working relationships with co-workers. 

  • Must treat fellow employees with respect. 

  • The incumbent must work and communicate well with engineers, management, coworkers, and support staff. 

  • Must possess neat and legible handwriting and be organized in such a manner as to maintain detailed notes and sketches.
