About the Role

 

KARL STORZ is seeking a strategic and hands-on leader to oversee and evolve our North America Compliance Risk Assurance program. This critical leadership role is responsible for compliance auditing, monitoring, data analytics, risk assessment, and healthcare transparency reporting across the organization.

 

As Director, Compliance Risk Assurance, you will lead a high-performing team that provides independent, risk-based assurance and actionable insights to strengthen compliance, improve business processes, and protect organizational value. Success in this role requires deep compliance expertise, strong leadership capabilities, analytical rigor, and the ability to build trusted partnerships across all levels of the organization.

 

 

What You’ll Do

 

Compliance Audit & Monitoring

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive risk-based compliance audit and monitoring program.
  • Establish audit, monitoring, and risk assurance methodologies, standards, and reporting practices.
  • Develop annual audit and monitoring plans based on risk assessments, compliance trends, investigations, and regulatory developments.
  • Oversee audits, monitoring activities, field observations, and live-event reviews to evaluate compliance program effectiveness.
  • Ensure timely reporting of findings, corrective actions, and remediation progress to key stakeholders and senior leadership.

Risk Assessment & Assurance

  • Lead enterprise compliance risk assessments and mitigation planning efforts.
  • Facilitate risk workshops, stakeholder interviews, and control evaluations across the business.
  • Partner with business, legal, and compliance leaders to identify emerging risks and strengthen controls.
  • Coordinate assurance activities with internal and external stakeholders to optimize coverage and reduce duplication.
  • Present risk insights, trends, and recommendations to senior management and governance committees.

Data Analytics & Business Insights

  • Drive the strategy and implementation of compliance analytics and technology solutions.
  • Develop dashboards, key risk indicators, and reporting tools that identify trends, anomalies, and potential compliance issues.
  • Leverage data to provide actionable insights that enhance compliance program effectiveness and support business objectives.
  • Evaluate monitoring results and root causes to recommend sustainable process improvements and risk mitigation strategies.

Transparency Reporting & Compliance Operations

  • Oversee federal and state healthcare transparency reporting programs, including Open Payments and aggregate spend requirements.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely submission of all required disclosures.
  • Manage data quality controls, reconciliations, and transaction verification processes.
  • Partner with Finance, Commercial Operations, and external vendors to resolve reporting issues and improve processes.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and implement enhancements to maintain ongoing compliance.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Compliance Risk Assurance professionals.
  • Manage external auditors and co-sourced partners as needed.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Build strong relationships across Compliance, Legal, Finance, Commercial, and Executive Leadership teams.

 

What You Bring

 

 

Required

 

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, or related functions, preferably within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience, including performance management, coaching, and employee development.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations, transparency reporting requirements, fraud and abuse laws, OIG guidance, and AdvaMed and/or PhRMA Codes.
  • Experience leading compliance audits, monitoring programs, risk assessments, and compliance investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain independence and objectivity while serving as a trusted business partner.
  • Ability to travel is approximately 15-25%.

 

 

Preferred

 

  • MBA, MS, or JD.
  • Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or similar certification.
  • Experience with compliance analytics, data visualization tools, and risk management technologies.
