This position is located in El Segundo, CA. Selected hire will work in our offices on Tuesday and Wednesday in compliance with our hybrid work policy.
The Head of Commercial FP&A at Karl Storz North America is responsible for maximizing financial impact and achieving strategic objectives by providing financial transparency and influencing decisions across business lines. This role is pivotal in transforming the FP&A function to enhance finance business partnering within the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to the Commercial leadership team, offering insights and financial transparency to guide business decisions.
- Lead a team of 5 analysts, ensuring effective finance business partnering with respective commercial business lines.
- Design and implement a new finance business partnering operating model for North America, driving transformation within the FP&A team.
- Upskill the FP&A organization by improving documentation processes, implementing new tools and systems, and managing change effectively.
- Develop and mentor team members to enhance their capabilities and performance.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing leaders to instill financial discipline, challenge decisions productively, and hold leaders accountable to financial targets.
- Work with diverse stakeholder groups to make data insightful and solve business problems, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- Act quickly to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks, demonstrating strategic and results-driven leadership.
Core tasks include:
Drive 5 years strategic planning with KS NA Commercial strategy office
- Develop 5-year sales plans for legal entities and business lines
- Establish top-line performance metrics and targets and drive accountability for results
- Develop the commercial organization’s annual budgets for operating (OPEX) and capital expenses
- Develop P&L forecasts and monitor forecast accuracy (including broadening commercial FP&A’s scope to partner and influence the bookings forecast)
- Prepare financial analysis and facilitate performance review with Commercial leaders (e.g. budget variance analysis), highlighting trends, drivers, data-backed insights and drive action
- Effectively communicate the ‘story’ of the financial data to commercial partners, and central FP&A to feed into upstream performance management (including resolving specific queries)
- Lead and develop a high performing team of 5 analysts. Develop skills through on the job coaching and structured training and development
- Resolve escalations from team and manage priorities and guide team to provide excellent finance partnering.
- Implement best practice finance partnering, including implementing new tools/systems, improving processes and training team members. Drive continuous improvement in FP&A processes
- Provide analytical guidance (including scenario analysis) to identify, solve problems and enable data-backed decisions
- Develop strategic insights and quantitative analysis for initiatives and projects to ensure alignment with financial objectives and compliance with policies
- Guide business partners through Karl Storz governance processes by creating business cases e.g. for incremental headcount, capital investments
- Lead the following FP&A Transformation Initiatives (not inclusive):
- Design and implement commercial business partnering operating model, including guidance and communications to Commercial Leaders as well as leading/training the FP&A Commercial team
- Lead the implementation of E2E planning in Sales Analytics Cloud (consistently across NA)
- Establish best practice process and develop internal capability on predictive analysis modelling, for commercial business opportunities, CAPEX investments, organizational restructures
Required:
Minimum years of relevant work experience:
- 10+ years of experience in financial reporting and analysis, finance business partnering including:
- 5+ years transforming finance operating model or planning processes either within an organization or as a consultant/advisor
- 5+ years of people and /or large-scale, program and project management and leadership experience
Minimum education, certifications and/or credentials:
- A minimum education level of a(n) BS in Finance, Accounting, Business or equivalent.
Minimum hard skill requirements (including computer and application proficiency):
- Data analytics and automated dashboard creation for commercial leadership audience, experience with Tableau preferred
- Strong analytical skills, proven ability to transform data into actionable insight
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of the marketing, accounting, decision support models, operations, leadership, and financial levers that drive sales, gross margin and operating profit
- Ability to create new predictive financial models
- Experience in leading process transformation and a continuous improvement mindset
- High attention to detail, with ability to see the big picture and analyze the ‘so what’ in the context of strategic goals
Minimum soft skill requirements:
- Collaborative and capable of influencing commercial leaders to course correct, based on sound analysis and business judgement
- Proven ability to build trusted, cross-functional relationships
- Executive presence, excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to influence leadership, peers and direct reports
- Intellectual curiosity and desire to master the drivers of the North America business
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to independently prioritize a fast-paced, dynamic portfolio of own and team’s work
- Excellent leadership skills with ability to develop analysts’ careers and skills

Preferred skills & experiences:
- Medical device/technology industry knowledge preferred with understanding of various specialties we serve
- MBA
- Certifications/Credentials preferred; CPA, CFA or equivalent
- Familiarity with SAP
