POSITION SUMMARY

 

The primary duty of this position will be to complete the task of assembling fiber bundles in support of Karl Storz Light Cable Production.

 

Shift: Monday to Thursday, 5:00AM-3:30PM

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

• High school graduate or equivalent.

• General knowledge of math and ability to apply that knowledge to the basic reading of blueprints and the use of basic measuring tools such as rules, micrometers, and calipers.

• Ability to read, understand, and apply the information contained in written procedures and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s).

• Ability to identify problems at final inspection and correct them if possible.

• General understanding of the use of microscopes.

• Some experience in small, detailed assembly preferably fiber-optics or optics assembly.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Must be able to work overtime as needed.

• Must be punctual, able to sustain attendance guidelines, and work hours as assigned.

• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs on an occasional basis.

• Should have good vision to read paperwork and part numbers on collars.

• Must be able to work using a microscope.

• Must be able to work using epoxy and isopropyl alcohol.

 

 

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Must be able to keep up in a fast-paced environment.

• Must be able to assess the relative quality of own work (i.e., loading of cables, endtipping, potting of light cables, grind and polish of light cables and final inspection for packaging). These decisions impact the quality of the work performed, the QC acceptance percentages, and the overall efficiency of the department.

• Must be able to cross train on multiple tasks in the department.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

• All employees are expected to be knowledgeable about and follow the Company’s Equal Employment and Affirmative Action Policies, including policies on the rights of individuals with disabilities and harassment.

• Essential responsibility is to work as assigned by Supervisor or Lead Person in accomplishing the production goals of the department.

• Duties may include sheathing fibers, endtipping, potting fiber bundles into endtips, final inspection, cleaning, collar assembly, and packaging of light cables.

• Learn and comply with new techniques and KSE Light Cable standards.

• Strive to improve quantity and quality of work performed.

• Aware of practices and processes utilizing current management tools.

• Daily 6S of area/areas must be maintained and proper 6S daily sheet should be filled out on a daily basis.

• An hour a week should be spent on continuous improvement either of process, 6S and/or safety.

• Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations, including the Company’s environmental and safety policies and procedures. Must be willing to report actual and potential environmental and safety violations to appropriate supervisory and/or management personnel.

• The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to environmental policies and company procedures as they relate to ISO 14001.

• Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety of himself/herself or others.

• Responsible for informing the Company if he/she is taking medications or if there are any other circumstances that would interfere with safe performance of job duties.

• The individual is explicitly responsible to read, understand, and follow all MSDS’s and procedures.

 

QUALITY

 

• The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures as they relate to the requirements of FDA Quality System Regulation, ISO13485 and ISO 9001 (current revisions).

 

 

INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

 

• Must be able to maintain productive working relationships with co-workers.

• Must treat fellow employees with respect.

• Must relate any observed problems either to Team Lead or directly to the Supervisor/Manager of the department.
